Flooding causes considerable damage wherever it occurs. In Europe, millions of people are threatened by this natural risk that can come from rivers, estuaries or the sea (marine submersion). Insurance losses due to flooding have considerably increased since 1990 and flood management in Europe has evolved from fighting against flooding to global management of flood risks.
FLOODrisk 2016 will explore the progress made in the research into analysing flood risks and innovations in flood risk management practices. The conference will examine all aspects of the flood risk and cover their causes as well as their impacts on people, property and the environment. A wide range of risk management measures will also be presented during this international event backed by the Flood Risk Management Research consortium.
Following the success of the events held in 2008 in Oxford (UK) and in 2012 in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and the implementation of the EU Floods Directive, FLOODrisk 2016 will bring together researchers, decision makers and practitioners from the world over. They will share their experiences and discuss the progress made in the field of flood risk.
